Anopheles (malaria mosquito) is one genus of mosquitoes. There are 400 species of Anopheles mosquitoes, but only 30-40 spread of malaria (for example, a "vector") naturally. Anopheles gambiae is the most popular due to its role as a disseminator of malaria parasites (eg Plasmodium falciparum) in endemic areas in Africa, while Anopheles malaria sundaicus is spreading in Asia. Anopheles is the vector for dog heart worm Dirofilaria immitis.
